Comfort Through Sedation Dentistry

Many patients experience fear or pain when thinking about visiting the dentist, leading some to avoid appointments altogether. However, neglecting oral health can result in infections, severe pain, and tooth loss. If you feel anxious about visiting The Schiff & Moniz Dental Group, you are not alone.

Fortunately, sedation dentistry can help you stay calm and comfortable during procedures. Our certified professionals, Dr. Jill Moniz, Dr. Lawrence Schiff, Dr. Reza Hakim Shoushtari, Dr. Jill Zurek, and Dr. Richard Titlebaum, are experienced in providing sedation to patients.

There are various types of sedation dentistry available, and the recommended type for a patient will be based on their anxiety level and other factors. Common types of sedation dentistry include:

Nitrous Oxide

To receive this sedation, you will breathe in nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) through a nosepiece. You will start feeling relaxed within a few minutes of inhaling it during the procedure. Once the procedure is complete, pure oxygen will be administered to help remove the nitrous oxide from your system. This type of sedation allows for a quick recovery, and you can safely drive yourself home after the treatment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

To receive oral conscious sedation, you will need to take a pill approximately one hour before your procedure. You may feel drowsy or even fall asleep during the treatment. Due to the effects on your memory and motor skills, it is important to have a family member or friend available to drive you home afterwards.
