Expert Pediatric Dentistry for Kids of All Ages
According to the CDC, more than 50% of children between the ages of 6 and 8 have had a cavity in one of their baby teeth. Cavities can cause difficulties with eating, speaking, and playing for your child.
To avoid this problem, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends taking your child to the dentist within six months of their first tooth erupting, or by their first birthday. After the first visit, it is advised to schedule dental check-ups every six months for professional cleaning.
- Oral health evaluation for infants to assess the risks for dental caries
- Preventive measures for teeth deterioration which include dental prophylaxis and fluoride treatments
- Teeth repair procedures for eliminating cavities and other defects or conditions
- Consultation on daily oral care at home
- Therapy for various dental injuries
- Treatment for periodontitis (gum disease) and other similar conditions
Some children may be at a higher risk for cavities, especially if they have a family history of cavities or if they have had cavities themselves. In these cases, preventive oral care is essential for maintaining good dental health.
One effective preventive measure for cavities is the use of dental sealants, which are plastic coatings that protect the teeth, particularly the back teeth where cavities often start. Dental sealants can help prevent up to 80% of cavities.
It is also important to use fluoride toothpaste to brush your child's teeth at least twice a day. For infants, a soft-bristled toothbrush with a small amount of fluoride toothpaste is recommended. During your visit, we will provide more information on proper oral care techniques.
